What Are The Benefits Of Water Filtration

Poor water quality affects your life in more ways than one. Investing in the proper filtration system provides a number of benefits, including:

  • Better for your plumbing equipment. The city puts chloramine and other chemicals in the water to kill other contaminants such as algae. However, doing so creates other problems that can impact your plumbing. By properly filtrating your water, you can eliminate the minerals that will eat away at your pipes and lead to pinhole leaks or worse.
  • Better for your health. Unfiltered water contains harmful toxins. Even if you don’t drink the water, you breathe in these same toxins from steam whenever you shower. Your skin essentially acts like a sponge and will absorb anything that’s in the water, whether you drink it or not.
  • Better for your wallet. Think about how much money you can save when you substitute bottled water for tap water. You also won’t need to eat the cost of a plumbing repair when the contaminants in your water eat away at your pipes. The water systems we install last an average of 13-15 years and will be sure to save you money in the long run.

Need Service For Your Current Filtration System? We’ve Got You Covered

Filtration System Service in Denver, CO

Just like any other piece of equipment, your water filtration system can eventually reach a bump in the road. When this happens, our plumbers are here to fully restore your system so you can go back to enjoying your water.

We can help you if your filtration system is:

  • No longer working. There can be a number of reasons for your system to experience mechanical failure. Most water systems use carbon to filter the water. Depending on which system you have and the quality of the carbon, you’ll need to change the carbon out every 5-15 years. Regardless, if you aren’t sure what’s going on with your system, give us a call and we’ll diagnose the problem quickly.
  • Leaking. Filtration systems can absolutely leak. This can occur when the seals go bad or excess water pressure causes the system to leak. No matter what started the leak, we’ll get to the root of the problem and make the proper fix.
  • Not powering on. First, check to make sure the unit is plugged in. (No judgement. We’ve all done it!) If it’s plugged in, check the breaker box to make sure the breaker didn’t trip. If you did both of these things and the unit still isn’t turning on, contact us to have one of our plumbers inspect your system.

We service all brands of water filtration systems, including:

  • Halo
  • Pelican
  • GE
  • Culligan
  • Aquasana
  • US Water Systems

What’s The Difference Between Water Softening And Water Filtration?

While water filtration cleanses your water, a water softener only softens it. A water softener is basically used to change the makeup of your water, while a filtration system will purify it. This means that even if you have a water softener, your water will be dirty and contain contaminants.

Water Softening And Water Filtration in Denver, COA water softener eliminates the mineral buildup that can cling to your faucets and your dishwasher. If you notice white spots on your dishes no matter how many times you run them through the cycle, this is a telltale sign your home has hard water.

Water softeners improve the performance and longevity of your plumbing equipment and eliminate the discomforts associated with hard water such as rough clothes and dry, itchy skin.

One downside to having a water softener is that it will essentially ruin your water heater. Why? Because salt corrodes metal. Think about when you go to the ocean and see all of the metal signs rusted from the salt in the air. The same thing happens when a water softener interacts with a metal water heater. So, if you do have a water softener, it’s very important to flush your water heater yearly and change the anode rod every other year. If you don’t want to do this yourself, our experienced plumbers can handle both of these tasks for you.

Not sure whether you need a water filtration system, a water softener or both? We provide free in-home estimates and will be happy to give you our professional recommendation.

Water Treatment FAQ

We recommend purchasing a whole-house water filtration system that flushes automatically. If you are on a budget, consider a reverse osmosis (RO) system for your kitchen faucet. The unit comes in a two-stage or three-stage system. The three-stage system has one extra cleaning cycle. Keep in mind that there is a storage tank, typically five gallons, that will require a lot of cabinet space under the kitchen sink. The water from RO systems tastes fabulous and the filters typically last one year. Our plumbers will be happy to point you in the right direction and recommend the perfect filtration system for your needs.

If you let the residue build up over time, it will be almost impossible to remove all of it. Our favorite cleaning product for this is CLR, which you can buy at most home and garden retailers. Spray it on, wait 15 minutes and then scrub off the first layer with either a steel-wool pad or some elbow grease and a paper towel. Spray again and wait another 15 minutes before removing. This usually gets most of the residue off.
