The name “Arvada” was chosen in 1870 when the town’s first post office was established. It is believed that a settler, Benjamin Wadsworth, suggested the name “Arvada” after his brother-in-law Hiram Arvada Haskin. The name was officially adopted for the town, and it has continued to be known as Arvada ever since.
