Every Water Heater Repair Under The Sun

Water Heater Repair Services In Denver, CoYou’ll never hear us say, “We can do this, but not that.” When it comes to water heater repair, we cover the whole spectrum. We can help you with any of the following:

  • No hot water
  • Low hot water temperature
  • Low hot water pressure
  • Leaking pipe on top of the water heater
  • Unusual noises coming from the water heater
  • Leaking water heater tank
  • Bringing water heater up to code

What Should I do If My Water Heater Is Leaking?

Your water heater is likely leaking if:

  • There’s water leaking from the tank.
  • There’s a pool of water underneath the water heater.
  • The burner assembly is full of water.
  • Water is dripping down from the top of the water heater tank.

If you’ve noticed any of these problems, you should first and foremost shut off the water supply to the water heater. Here’s how to do this:

  1. If you look at the top of the water heater, you’ll see two water pipes that run into the water heater—a cold pipe and a hot pipe. When you’re facing the system, the cold pipe is on the right-hand side. Follow the pipe up from the water heater until you find a valve. If the valve has a round handle, turn it clockwise until it stops moving. If the valve has a lever handle, turn it ¼ up or down. (The direction may vary, depending on how the valve is installed.)
  2. If you have at least some familiarity with your water heater, then you can start to drain the system of its water. To do this, hook up a garden hose to the drain valve at the bottom of the water heater and run the garden hose to the outside of the house. In most San Diego homes, the water heater is typically in the garage.
  3. Open up a hot side faucet to allow air into the system so the water heater vapor doesn’t lock. It will usually take 45 minutes to an hour to drain the water heater.
  4. Once you’ve taken these steps, call us and our plumbers will arrive right away to replace your water heater if it can’t be repaired.

Get The Most Out Of Your Water Heater With Annual Maintenance

Annual Water Heater Maintenance In Denver, CoOn average, water heaters last 8-10 years. How can you make sure yours falls on the latter end, or even longer? Often, it boils down to how well you take care of your system. By this, we mean having a professional maintain it each year.

An annual water flush clears out your system and prevents it from forming blockages that can lead to costly repairs. For just $39, we’ll hook up a hose to the drain valve and stir up all of the sediment in the tank to properly flush it out.

Doing this small but crucial task can make all the difference in the performance and longevity of your water heater.

Water Heater Repair FAQ

No hot water is a common problem with aging water heaters. Typically, it’s caused by a bad thermocouple, which we can fix.In the meantime, to get your hot water back, you need to reignite the pilot light. These instructions are on your water heater, but it generally involves the following:

Turn the black knob on top of the silver box (gas control valve near the bottom of the water heater) to “pilot.” Press down the button with your thumb. If there is an igniter button on the gas control valve (typically on water heaters made in 2003 or after), press this button every five seconds for 30 seconds, while holding down the black button on top of the gas control valve. After 30 seconds, release your thumb and turn the black knob to the “on” position. If there is no igniter button, hold down the black button and put a lighted match in the combustion chamber (the open area at the bottom of the water heater where there is a round burner). Hold the match with a pair of needle nose pliers, near where the three tubes meet at the round disc. This should relight the pilot. Continue holding down the black knob for 30 seconds and then turn to “on.” If you’ve done this and still don’t have hot water, give us a call and we’ll be there to fix your water heater in a jiffy!

This is the sound of sediment that’s built up in your water heater over the years. When the water heats up, it also heats up the sediment to the point where it will pop and crackle. This is a sign that your water heater is old and is likely going to leak soon. Sometimes you can flush the sediment out and it will temporarily fix the problem, though this is rare. With our poor water quality in the San Diego area, it’s imperative to flush your water heater every year to make it last as long as possible.
